Car Insurance in Egypt: Comprehensive vs. Compulsory Cover and Cost
In practice, car insurance in Egypt falls into two main types:
Compulsory motor vehicle insurance: tied to the car's licence, its main purpose is to cover civil liability arising from vehicle accidents within the legal scope and limits.Supplementary or comprehensive insurance: an optional policy that protects the insured car against specific risks, such as collision, overturning, fire and theft, according to the policy terms.
The most important difference between them is that compulsory insurance is not a policy for repairing your car after an accident. Comprehensive insurance may cover damage to your own car, but it does not automatically cover every incident, and it does not mean the insurer will pay the full repair cost without a deductible, depreciation or conditions
